If nonprofits today were a flavor of ice cream, it would no doubt be Rocky Road. Increasing regulations, constant concern about funding, and in our case, the everyday challenges women and their families endure might be cause for a meltdown.

Life in the nonprofit world today is a swirl of complexities made more challenging than ever before. That is why Board involvement is critical to the success of every nonprofit.

Some days I feel like I am under a lucky star.

It is rare for someone to call your cell phone and offer you an unsolicited $50,000 for a
nonprofit program. That’s precisely what happened last week when I was in the drive-through
at McDonalds on Kennedy Ave. As if the offer was not incredible enough, it was the caller who
made all the difference.

The caller was Sandy Freedman who holds the distinction of being Tampa’s first woman
mayor…and now deserved recognition as a Tampa Lightning Hero....

Never in my wildest imagination did I ever think of myself as a Diva.
