Finding the Light Amidst the Darkness

on Friday, September 16, 2011.

Tanya, at 45 years old was let go from her profession of 10 years, was forced to collect unemployment and had recently gone through a divorce. After filing for bankruptcy, she was in fear of losing her home to foreclose. For weeks, she explained, nothing about her was alive except for the pain and worry from which she suffered. With her daughter serving in the Middle East, she had no one to turn to; The Centre was her last hope.

Through the tears, Tanya spoke to a counselor at The Centre, describing her feelings, expressing her loses and the overwhelming thought of what lies ahead. After just one session she saw a glimpse of light in this dark time of her life.

Through her counseling, she gained knowledge about the symptoms of depression and anxiety she was experiencing, and how to manage those challenges. After three months at The Centre, she began to pick herself up, dust herself off and start enjoying the things in life she was once so passionate about. She soon found a new career and began seeing her life from a new perspective.

The Centre gave Tanya peace of mind, knowing she had a place she could go when life wasn’t going as planned. We wish Tanya a bright future and all of those who come to The Centre when they have nowhere else to turn.
